On Shabbat at Darchei Noam there are typically six rabbis. In addition to our beloved Rabbis Tina, Ryan and Aaron, there are three non‑pulpit rabbis who choose to be part of our congregational family although they could attend services anywhere in the city. This is a testament to our beautiful services and spiritual leadership.
Our family chose Darchei Noam 34 years ago after Sharei Haim, where Joel’s brother Rabbi Lawrence Troster officiated, closed its doors. On a sunny summer Shabbat morning on Hove Street we heard Phyllis lead services for the first time and we knew we had found our spiritual home.
For many years we came to shul for the holidays and special occasions. Joel frequently read Torah and Haftorah but we did not attend every week. However, two years ago my brother Ira died and I chose to say kaddish for 11 months, in part because he had no children to perform this mitzvah. As the weeks went by, we realized how much regular attendance means to us.
We look forward to sharing a tallit with the same friendly faces every week and joining them in both joy and sorrow. We have celebrated B’nai Mizvot, baby namings, birthdays and anniversaries with the congregation. Weekly, we thank G‑D for Joel’s return to good health and pray for peace.
Torah study, lectures, movies, art shows, a community garden and DN’s two successful theatrical performances are only a few of the activities that enhance our shul experience.
We are very excited about implementation of the Board’s plan to attract young families including Shabbat School and Ark Adventures.
Darchei Noam is truly unique. We have chosen to increase our regular financial gifts so the synagogue can continue to grow and flourish.
We hope you can join us and that you choose to give as generously as possible to the From This Moment Campaign so your children and their children can choose Jewish continuity as part of our wonderful community.
