We always taught our kids that the most important thing you can do is show up, to answer the cries of the weary and the grief stricken and the broken hearted with the answer our ancestors raised to the heavens: Hineini. We are here. We are showing up.
On January 21 of this past year, we buried Michael Simon’s beloved father, Arthur (z”l). Nine months later, on October 28, we buried his mother, Dorit (z”l). To bury two parents in a single year? The grief is simply immense.
The Darchei Noam community showed up for our family repeatedly. You showed up at the cemetery and helped shovel dirt as we buried our parents and grandparents. You showed up to sit shivah with us and made a minyan so we could utter Mourner’s Kaddish. You showed up with sweet treats to help us gulp down the bitterness of grief. You showed up and brought us Shabbes dinner and you showed up in our snail mail and email boxes with letters of condolence and comfort. You showed up making donations to Darchei Noam and the Caring Committed showed up to check on us and let us know we were not alone as we grieved. You showed up on Shabbes mornings and offered us tender hugs and tissues to wipe away our tears.
Darchei Noam knows how to show up. We are grateful beyond measure for your love and support.
Our family wants to show up with gratitude for all that you have given us. We are making a financial gift to Darchei Noam so our beautiful synagogue can keep showing up. We invite you to join us. We hope you can give as generously as possible to the FROM THIS MOMENT campaign, so we can live in a world that teaches the next generation of Jewish children the mitzvah of showing up. Thank you. Let’s keep showing up, together. Hineini.
All Our Love,
Michael, Michael, Noa, & Grayson
