David Kaufman

David Kaufman is a photographer whose work focuses primarily on architecture and the urban landscape. From 2007 to 2016 he made eight trips to eastern Europe to photograph Jewish historical sites in Poland, western Ukraine, and the Baltic States. Those photographs form the basis of a travelling exhibition entitled The Posthumous Landscape and a book of the same name forthcoming in 2025. His 2013 photo exhibition depicting Toronto heritage streetscapes, Early Sunday Morning, was named a must-see show of the prestigious CONTACT Photo Festival by Toronto Life and NOW Magazine. Other recent exhibitions include: Architectural Devolution: Industrial Buildings in a Post-Industrial World, Built to Last: Montreal’s Enduring Architecture, and Vessels of Song: Faces of New Jewish Music. Kaufman has also been the official photographer of both the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto and the KlezKanada Summer Festival near Montreal.  Other major photographic projects include work on Toronto’s Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and on the Spadina and Kensington area of the city. Kaufman is also a documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared on CBC, History and Bravo channels, and PBS.
