TOAN KLEIN

ABOUT TOAN

Over the past 50 years I have participated in the contemporary art glass movement as an artist, gallery owner and representative of fellow craftspeople. As a young man I moved from the United States to Montreal to apprentice with Venetian glassblowers living and working in that city. I did other extended glass stints in San Francisco, CA, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Toronto, where I now reside.

My work has been displayed internationally and is in, among other institutions, the Royal Ontario Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Canadian Museum of History. I created our ner tamid hanging in the sanctuary as well as the Holocaust memorial in the upstairs DN foyer.

Glassblowing is a very physical activity. So, I have slowed down considerably. However, from time to time I still feel compelled to rise to the occasion and immerse myself in the glories of this wonderous material.
